The heavenly commission!
Acts 26:19-29
Introduction: In chapter 26, we can see Paul's defense before governor Festus and King Agrippa. Paul boldly testifies the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
1. Paul's Response to the heavenly commission (19). Paul boldly says to Agrippa that he is obedient to the heavenly vision. Paul made up his mind to follow Jesus. He was totally converted, perfect surrender. He gave up his popularity, position, honor and power (Luke 9:62; 1 Kings 19:20).
2. Thus far the Lord helps us (22). From persecution and plot of killing, Paul was always saved by the LORD. Paul always recognizes the help of God and gives thanks to Him.
3. The gospel is the central emphasis of prophets and the whole Bible (23). The Messiah will suffer, die and resurrected. He saved us for our sins. This good news is preached first to the Jews and then to all the Gentiles.
4. The cross is foolishness to the world but it is the power of God to us (24 cf. 1 Cor. 1:18). Paul's testimony of the gospel seems foolishness to Festus…saying Paul, you are out of your mind.
5. God wants all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (29 cf. 1 Tim 2:4).
Conclusion: We are called in the Service of God, it is heavenly commission. Let us give up the worldly ideals and let us pursue after the spiritual things. Set your mind on things above, because you are not belonged to the world. Amen!
