Spiritual insights from Paul and Barnabas
Acts 14:8-28
Introduction: The gospel of Jesus Christ was preached to the Gentiles; and churches were established by Paul and Barnabas. Why their mission was successful, why the early churches were growing rapidly? We can learn some spiritual insights from Paul and Barnabas.
1. They love God more than money. In Lystra, they healed a man who was lame from birth. The people of Lystra thought that gods were visiting them in a human form. The city-men offered sacrifice and worshiped, but Paul & Barnabas rejected.
2. They seek to lead the unbelievers to Christ. Paul & Barnabas rejected the people's sacrifice and worship; instead they persuaded the people to turn to the living God from their idols.
3. They keep proclaiming the gospel in spite of persecution. Paul was stone almost death, but he got up, walked to the next city and preach the gospel there (14:21).
4. They encourage the believers. They strengthened the weak, gave them spiritual power and encouragement to face trials.
5. They help the church to be grown and organized under godly leaders. They appointed godly leaders with fasting and prayer, committing them to the Lord (14:23).
6. They are accountable to God and to men also (14:26-27).
7. They seek God's glory. They do everything for God's glory (14:27).
