Harvest Festival: Thanksgiving to God
Leviticus 23:22
Introduction: We are in the week of Chuseok Holidays (Traditional Harvest festival), and it is Thanksgiving Day.
-
God is the giver. God is the one who gave the land and a good harvest to the people of Israel. He is the one who gave rain, dew and sunshine to the land to produce harvest (Ps 67:6; Lev. 26:4). In our generation, we (most of us) are not cultivating land like ancient days; but God does give us the harvest of our work. God is our provider, and the source of all blessings. Therefore, we should give thanks to the LORD!
-
Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God (Lev. 23:22; Exod. 23:1-9; Micah 6:8). Giving thanks is very important, but God also wants us to do his will—that is to act justly (defend the case of the poor, the oppressed the marginalized); to love mercy (to care for foreigners, the weak, the poor and the needy out of pure heart); and to walk humbly before the Lord. This is the true thanks giving which the Lord requires/expects.
Conclusion: Let us give thanks from the bottom of our heart and with the heart of gratitude. When we give thanks, we have joy and victory and we see the glory of God! Amen!
