God is merciful to us
Romans 9:13-16
Introduction: God is too good and faithful beyond our imagination or beyond description. His nature is love and compassion. We deserve punishment but he gives us love, we deserve death but He gives us life.
-
We do not deserve God’s mercy. We all are sinners (Romans 3:20); the wages of sin are death, we all deserve punishment. If God has no mercy upon us it is just; if He has no mercy upon Esau he is just.
-
God’s work is always just. God never forced to harden the kind heart of Pharaoh; but he just allowed his heart to pursue its nature (hard and evil). God would not cause Cain to murder his brother Abel, but he allowed. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts (Romans 1:24). Why he loves Jacob? He is sovereign/ he is just. What I can guest is God looks the heart of man (“See the life of David & Jacob” 1 Samuel 16:7).
-
God is merciful to us. Mercy means to receive something that we don’t deserve. We are sinners, and thus, if God has o mercy on us it is just. If He has mercy on us it is still just. Why? Because he loves us and gave us his Son Jesus Christ, died on our behalf. All the good things we receive is because of God’s mercy.
Conclusion: Apart from God, we have no good things (Psalms 16:2). God is always merciful to us. Amen!
