Doing good things that will please God
Romans 15:1-6
Introduction: From Romans chapter 12, we have been talking about the change that should occur in the life of a believer. Love in action (12), to put the armor of the light, Jesus Christ (13), to support each other, and to help the weak (14); and now to please our neighbor and to glorify God.
-
Helping the weak (1). In this world, the strong usually take advantage of the weak. But the Bible tells us to defend, to protect and help the weak. Chapter 14 tells us not to judge the weak. Now 15 tells us to help the weak.
-
Pleasing our neighbor (2-4). Not pleasing ourselves but pleasing others. How? We should not please our neighbor in a way they dictate, but as God dictates. We should please them for their good to build them up. Christ is our model in pleasing others. The motive of pleasing others is for God’s glory.
-
Glorifying God in unity and harmony (5-6). We should glorify God in one mind and one voice (verse 6). We are parts of the body of Christ—having different gifts, different quality and different functions; but we all make unity in glorifying God like music.
Conclusion: We are called to help each other. We are called to please others according to God’s will. Therefore, let us live in our calling for God’s glory. Amen!
