Be Generous Because God is the Generous Giver
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Introduction: You work hard for your whole life-time, saving money and never helping others. Then what is the meaning and purpose of your life? When you have a new life in Christ, you enjoy in giving, and then your life is meaningful and valuable.
-
The motive of giving. What is our motive? Is it to gain honor and praise? Is it expectation for something in return? To receive God’s blessing? All these are wrong motive. God loves the cheerful givers. Giving is not by force or compulsion, by it is by the heart of compassion, kindness and love. We receive perfect love from Jesus, so we should also give to others.
-
We reap what we sow. The Bible teaches us that whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
-
God is the generous giver. Jesus Christ was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. God wants to give us abundantly. God is the giver and the source of all blessings.
Conclusion: Whatever we do to the little ones, we are doing to Christ (Matt. 25:40). When we give to others with a right motive, God is pleased with us and is glorified. Amen!
