A deeper knowledge of God and His redemption
Acts 7:48-53
Introduction: In Acts 7, we can hear a long preaching of Stephen on God's redemption & God's relationship with his people (Israel).
1. Accusation of Stephen-speaking against the Temple & the Law.
2. Stephen's reply about the Temple-God is not confined in the Temple made by human hand. God was with Abraham, with patriarchs, and with Joseph although a tabernacle or temple was not yet there. In OT, God presence to Israel is through some leaders (kings & prophets). NT, God dwells among us through Jesus. Now, God dwells in us by the Holy Spirit; his presence is deeper and more specific ever than before.
3. Stephen's reply about the Law-the Law reveals Jesus. Moses himself promised that God will send the greater prophet to Israel (referring to Jesus Christ). Joseph was betrayed and rejected by his own people. Moses was rejected, too. All God's prophets were persecuted. Now the people of Israel rejected the Messiah and murdered him.
4. The life of Jewish leaders. Very religious but no personal relationship with God, no salvation, no knowledge of the nature of God. Stubborn & misleading. (Stephen-full of Holy Spirit, wisdom & courage).
Conclusion: We need to know more God and his salvation; we should enjoy his salvation, we must have an intimate relationship with God-then our spiritual life will grow and we will see the glory of God.
